Rules of Procedure for Middle School Students

Introduction | ROP 102

The Rules of Procedure 102 Seminar will teach delegates the fundamentals of Model UN, so that they can confidently walk into committee, being one step ahead of many other delegates. This seminar will cover the flow of debate, key terms, motion options, and different voting types. After this seminar, delegates will be confident and prepared to tackle humanitarian crises while navigating the formal procedures of committee.

Natalie Doelman is a senior at Bellarmine Preparatory School. This is her fourth year in Model UN and her second time staffing. Outside of school, Natalie works on the family dairy farm, shows dairy cattle at county and state fairs through 4H, participates in livestock judging, and, of course, hangs out with Jane, her favorite cow. She is excited to lead the Middle School ROP seminar with Autumn and looks forward to meeting the delegates in November!

Portrait of Autumn Rhee

Autumn Rhee

Co-Director

Autumn Rhee is currently a junior at the International Community School. She began her MUN journey at PACMUN 2018 in UNHCR (confusing it for UNHRC), but nevertheless, was inspired by the community of passionate delegates around her. Outside of MUN, she enjoys spending her time playing instruments, passionately playing card/board games, and simply meeting new people! Autumn hopes that this committee will not only improve your public speaking but also create unforgettable memories.

Capstone

One of the exciting aspects of the Seminars Program at EDUMUN 2019 is the Capstone Committee session. Prior to the conference, each delegate will be assigned the country they are representing during Capstone. Delegates are free to research the country and use the Capstone Background Guide provided to supplement their information, although they are not required to. Throughout each seminar, delegates will be learning how to participate in a Model UN committee. Through various activities and lectures, some pertaining directly to their country roles, delegates will learn how to succeed in committee. At the end of the day, delegates will take their new knowledge and put it into action during our specially designed two hour Capstone session. They will get the chance to work through most of the Model UN Rules Of Procedure (ROP), practice their debate and negotiation skills, and utilize their research and resolution skills in a comfortable learning environment. The goal for Capstone is that the delegates receive the opportunity to apply their learning and become accustomed to the flow and dynamics of committee.
